Family buys ship to rescue refugees

Regina and her husband Chris enjoyed a peaceful cruise on the Mediterranean when they witnessed a tragic event that changed their lives completely. While walking along the deck, they saw a winter jacket floating in the water and ask the captain what could be its origin, he replied: "Probably from a Syrian refugee."

It was the first time Regina and Chris were facing the drama of so many people trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to enter Europe and escape the scarcity of resources and violence in their home countries. So they decided to do something to alleviate the situation of these people who needed help . They decided to buy a yacht and do something in the Mediterranean, where people are dying every day," says Regina, who along with her husband bought a ship, hired a crew and took to the water Mediterranean to rescue refugees.

Now this Catholic couple with their daughter sail the Mediterranean rescuing refugees fleeing war and seeking asylum in Western countries. To do this they use high technology detector drones, Schiebel S-100 camcopters, allowing them to locate ships trying to cross the Mediterranean.

Chris explains how the drones have high definition, night vision and thermal imaging cameras enough to read a piece of paper in the hand of a passenger. Having this type of technology has allowed them to save thousands of lives during this type. In just his first trip across the Mediterranean, which lasted a month, this marriage rescued more than 3,000 people.

Once located the boats, the Catrambrone come into contact with the nearest authorities for permission to pick up passengers. While they are waiting for the order, provide food, water and life jackets to the occupants of the boat. In the Phoenix also it has a paramedic and all medical equipment to provide medical assistance to those in need.

This project costed million euros, Regina and Chris run a successful business and they are property owners group of Tangiers, a company based in Malta that offers services to companies who want to travel to conflict zones.
