GI on Holland America Veendam

Holland America Veendam anchored in Sydney Harbor on Wednesday morning carrying 21 passengers and crew with a gastrointestinal illness.
The sick passengers and crew are quarantined in their cabins and special cleaning procedures are implemented for sanitizing the ship with Microback and bleach.

Holland America spokesman, Erik Elvejord confirmed the GI cases saying "Normally when we see this sort of thing, you can see a pattern and things have sort of flattened out on us and we haven't had too many cases in the last day and a half, which is a good sign. That just means the efforts and folks on board are washing their hands and being extra careful and it helps for everybody on board,"

Greg Boone said sick passengers are isolated in their cabins and will not be disembarking in Sydney.

MS Veendam carries 580 crew members and 1,350 passengers. The cruise started in Montreal and docked in Quebec City and Charlottetown before arriving in Sydney.
