Greek ship solves housing shortage

Every country that has a housing shortage has a hard time coming up with a solution for solving this problem, but the nickel mining company that is building a refinery in Long Harbour has come up with a very unconventional solution for the same problem.  A giant cruise ship from Greece was docked in order to be used as a floating hotel for the company’s workers.  This cruise ship, the El Veniselos, was the largest cruise ship once, but now the nickel company Vale was granted approval to dock this ship in the nearby area in order to be used as housing for their employees.

The workers have rented all the available domestic housing that was available for rent in the same area.  Some of them are living on the refinery site in the temporary work camp.  The growth of this company and need of new employees has raised the housing question.  Vale believes that bringing the cruise ship for housing will be more practical and economical, than building temporary housing on land.
