Human remains found in Costa Concordia

The search and rescue services in Italy, who are looking for the body of the last person missing after the sinking of the cruise ship Costa Concordia, found human remains on Thursday.

The search operation for remnants of the cruise ship steward Russel Rebello, 33 years old, began on August 5 at the port of Genoa, where the vessel was transported to dismantling.

Search operations involved about 50 people divided into six groups. The remains were found on the third deck of the Costa Concordia.

However, it is too early to say that the skeletal remains found belong to Rebello, the agency notes, since the tragedy occurred more than two and half years. The identification of the remains found at the moment, can only be accomplished by examining DNA and anthropological research.
