The largest NCL shareholder and owner of Star Cruises, commissioned new cruise ship

The group Genting HK, the largest shareholder of Norwegian Cruise Lines, 43.4%, and owner of Star Cruises, commissioned a new ship with capacity of 3,364 passengers to the Asian market, an investment of 702.2 million euros.

A group information indicates that the new ship, will be built in German shipyards of Meyer Werft with 1,682 cabins will be delivered on 7 October 2016.

The ship will operate in North Asia, including China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, says the international press.

The new ship, commissioned on behalf of the Chinese Dream subsidiary, 100% owned by Genting HK, but still subject to shareholder approval, will allow the group to benefit from the growing demand for cruises in the Asian market and investment in the region's ports, to allow the berthing of vessels of greater size.

Currently, the Asian cruise market is estimated at about 1.5 million passengers, which is equivalent to about 5% of the world total.Estimates indicate that the Asian share will grow to 30%, as the cruises are entering the holiday options in Asia.
