Man Dies After Falling from MSC Fantasia

A 52 year old man died after  falling from the cruise ship MSC Fantasia in the yesterday morning. According to the MSC Cruise Lines, the man fell from an upper deck and was already dead when he was found by ships crew. At the time of the accident, the vessel sailed from Santos, in São Paulo coast, and Ilha Grande, in Rio de Janeiro.

MSC Fantasia is the largest cruise ship sailing the Brazilian coast this season. In a statement, MSC Cruises says the death of the passenger was announced by the ships doctor, but the exact causes have not yet been identified. After the accident, the company says, the ship was anchored, but has since been released by authorities. The company says it is cooperating with the investigations and sympathizes with family and friends of the guest.

Similar incident occurred on Sunday when a 23 year old tourist was hospitalized in serious condition after falling from the balcony of an cruise liner who was in the port of Itajai, Santa Catarina, around 2 p.m. Municipal Tourism authorities  announced that: Gabriel Moura Campos tried to take a picture when he slipped and fell from the 10th to the 8th floor of the cruise ship Pullmantur Empress.

After the fall the young man was rescued by the ship's medical staff and taken by ambulance to the port of Itajai Hospital Marieta Konder Bornhausen. He suffered trauma to the head and is in ICU, still in critical condition. Pullmantur, responsible for the cruise, said the young man slipped while trying to climb a guardrail to get a better angle for the shot, and denies fault in the structure of the ship and says that there was no on-board equipment was damaged.
