The current voyage on Norwegian Gem was cancelled mid-cruise and the ship will return to New York ahead of the schedule due to COVID-related circumstances. Guests sailing on the current 10-day voyage received a letter that their Norwegian Gem voyage was cancelled.
“We are doing our very best to navigate the fluid public health environment while delivering a safe and healthy onboard experience. Unfortunately, as a result of COVID-related circumstances, we must cancel the remainder of your Norwegian Gem cruise currently underway.
We will overnight in St. Maarten and return to New York tomorrow. We do not yet have an estimated time of arrival in New York, but we will share all information with you as soon as it becomes available.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience but your health and safety, as well as that of our crew and the communities we visit, always comes first.” NCL letter reads in parts.
Ncl Cruise Blog shared the letter sent out to guests currently sailing aboard the ship.
Norwegian Gem departed from New York City on January 9, for a 10-day cruise to the Caribbean. The ship was scheduled to visit Grand Turk, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Tortola, and Amber Cove, before returning back to New York on January 19. Norwegian Gem is not on the NCL’s growing list of cruise cancellations just yet. Currently, it is not known if additional Norwegian Gem cruises will be cancelled.
