Port Bridge Collapses in Brazil While P&O Cruises’ Aurora Is Docked

Submitted by kgnadmin on

A port bridge in Manaus, located in the heart of the Amazon, collapsed on January 28 while P&O Cruises’ ship Aurora was docked. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. local time amid sudden strong winds and heavy rainfall, our source said.

Passengers and crew members who were outside at the time of the collapse were brought back aboard using local tender boats. As the ship remained in port for two days following the incident, local tenders continued operating to ensure all guests and crew could move safely between the vessel and the shore.

The source did not mention any injuries or confirm whether people were on the bridge when it collapsed. Authorities in Manaus have yet to provide an official statement on the cause of the structural failure or any potential casualties.

Aurora is currently on a 65-day round-trip Amazon and Caribbean Exploration cruise, which began on January 6 from Southampton, England. The 76,000-ton vessel, operated by P&O Cruises, is a popular choice among British travelers seeking extended voyages to exotic destinations.
