After HAL Veendam fail the USPH inspection in august 19th with 77 points, MV Yorktown operated by V. Ships Leisure U.S.A. failed the inspection with a all-time record low 69 points in September 8th . The third ship to fail the USPH inspection in less than a mount was 96-passenger Grande Mariner operated by Blount Small Ship Adventures. Grande Mariner built in 1998 was cruising the East Coast of USA, failed the USPH inspection with 75 points
The company issued statement saying:
"The crew has been reeducated on items related to procedural issues and proper procedures will be followed going forward. Items related to the construction of the vessel will be addressed in upcoming shipyard periods. Blount Small Ship Adventures makes every effort to keep its ships in top sanitary condition at all times and generally meets the guidelines established in the Vessel Sanitation Program,"
Here are some of the violations found by USPH Inspectors onboard Grande Mariner:
A heavy layer of mold was noted on the ice cuber's plastic shield in the restaurant.
Food temperatures were not being adequately monitored and target cooking temperatures were not know by the prep staff.
Cooling logs were not being maintained for the potentially hazardous foods
Galley-Dishwashing
Three compartment sink and clean and soiled landings was heavily soiled with old food debris.
Interior shelves and bottom of cooler were soiled with old food debris.
Since 2007, six ships fail the USPH inspection. This is a record year because 3 out of 6 ships fail in 2012 in less than one month period. Worst score ever was given to MV Yorktown with 69, before this, worst score was set by TSS Oceanic operated by Japan Grace with 73 points back in 2009.
