It sounds like science fiction. The video presented by Rolls Royce shows their vision of the ground control centers of maritime traffic, which can monitor and control vessels.
In the six minutes video, Rolls-Royce presents a vision of a future in which a small team of 7 to 14 people supervises and controls the operation of a fleet of ships worldwide. The crew uses intelligent interactive displays, voice recognition systems, holograms and drones to observe what is happening on board and around the ship.
Iiro Lindborg, CEO of remote operations and autonomous inteligent vessels Rolls-Royce, said: "We are living in a changing world. Our research aims to understand the human factors involved in monitoring and operating ships remotely. the means mentioned ground crews can use the tools to have a realistic idea of what is happening at sea. "
The video marks the final stage of the research and construction of a real model of the project will be finished by the end of this decade.
The future is fast approaching and maybe this technology will be implemented in the cruise ship industry. We have seen robotic technology embraced by the cruise lines. Royal Caribbean implemented robots bartenders on their smart ships. Aida and Costa Cruises already have Pepper robots assisting guests when boarding the ship.
