Lifeguards onboard the cruise ship Liberty of the Seas sprang to the rescue of a guest after he lost consciousness in one of the ships' pools. What started as another workday by the Solarium Pool became a day Royal Caribbean lifeguards saved a guest's life.
The rescue happen last month, when on-duty lifeguard Iketut Giartana, observed that a guest lost consciousness in the pool. With the help of several other lifeguards, a bar staff nearby, a concerned guest, and a lifeguard manager, they pulled guest out of the pool and began life-saving measures using CPR (chest compressions) and a heart defibrillator. Racing against time, they were able to restart the heart and help the patient regain consciousness.
“We are so proud of what our team of lifeguards did and continue to do for our guests. Our promise to our guests is that we will do everything we can to keep them safe and protect their well-being. Our lifeguards - and the medics they work with - honor this promise every minute onboard. Guests who witnessed this incredible rescue thanked the team with a huge round of applause.
Dear team of lifeguards: know that every crew across our fleet, the brands, and shoreside also applaud you for your professionalism and skill. THAN YOU!" said Royal Caribbean in the Royal Way Newsletter.
Lifeguards on Royal Caribbean ships have been trained and certified by the premier lifeguard training organization “StarGuard Elite” based in the USA.
