The 216-foot Yorktown ran aground in the Detroit River about 8:15 p.m. Saturday between Wyandotte and Canada’s Fighting Island, U.S. Coast Guard official report.  The ship, which is operated by Great Lakes Cruise, was freed with a tugboat around 2 a.m. without any reported injuries from the 95 passengers and 35 crew members, Coast Guard’s Lt. Justin Westmiller reports.

Officials report that it is too early to know what caused the ship to run aground, but that the Coast Guard investigator, along with the divers which were hired by the cruise ship company will be inspecting the ship.  They will be looking into different possibilities to include operator error and mechanical difficulties.  The final results of the same may be available within a month or so.
