Silversea Cruises has announced the purchase of second expedition ship. The ships name is Galapagos Explorer II, which is owned and operated by Ecuadorian Canodros for cruises in the Galapagos Islands.
Built in 1990 in La Spezia, Italy, under the name Renaissance Three, the ship is 88 meters long and 15.3 meters wide. Capable of speeds of 17 knots, it has 50 cabins with an area of 19.5 to 26.6 m². Public areas include a restaurant, conference room, piano bar for a hundred passengers, a tea room, space observation of marine life and a solarium with whirlpool.
The Galapagos Explorer II will join the Silversea Cruises fleet in September 2013 after extensive refurbishment.
He will join the Silver Explorer, the first boat company to have been dedicated to cruise expeditions, especially in polar regions.
The former World Discoverer, with 66 cabins, began his new life as Prince Albert II in 2008, before being renamed Silver Explorer last year. Apart from these two ships, Silversea aligns five luxury ships: the new Silver Spirit (540 passengers), and Silver Whisper (382 passengers), Silver Shadow (382 passengers), Silver Cloud (296 passengers) and Silver Wind (29 passengers).
