The Spanish Ports Hit by Heavy Rains

Heavy rains caused floods in the southern Spain affecting major port city’s Valencia, Malaga, Almería and the rest of the region. This are the worst rains in 20 years claiming many lives.

Three bodies were discovered on Friday, two in the region of Murcia and one in the province of Malaga. Ten people are reported dead and two missing of the storm sweeping the Spanish south coast. Among the victims is a nine year old girl and a 65 year old man who died on Friday
One of the most affected has been Lorca, who last year was severely damaged in an earthquake that killed nine people.

The Government representatives arrived in Murcia and Andalusia, respectively, to see the  damage caused by the storm, which caused the evacuation of thousands of people, in addition to substantial damage to infrastructure and crops.

The rains, which have spread throughout the Spanish Mediterranean coast, have also affected the region of Valencia, where last night there were up to 226 liters per square meter in Quart de Poblet (Valencia) in just four hours. Witnesses say the water divided the town into two parts. Many cars were swept away by the overflowing of the river Guadalhorce.

Heavy rains began on Friday morning and was expected to continue all day Saturday. The front is heading north to Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
