
Ever since we were little kids we were taught how to stereotype and classify other people in order to help us make sense and not spend so much time wondering and classifying every person individually. Even though this may be wrong, it does help us greatly with not spending so much time getting to know each person individually. After all, we do live in a time where everything needs to be fast. Our fast generation does everything faster than the previous one. We have fast food, fast dating, even fast marriages. Well if people on land need things done fast, people on ships need everything much faster which includes getting to know people and classifying does help a lot.
We will explore the classification of the Filipino crew members and especially what they are famous for. It seems that on every crew ship the majority of the crew members are Filipinos most of the time. They extend their contracts the more than any other nationality working in the cruise industry. Their characters most often are very nice, gentle, and hardworking.
Here are some of the things which Filipino crew members have made themselves famous in the cruise industry:
BINGO
Entertainment on a cruise ship is pretty limited to the crew bar and few different games. Bingo is one of the most popular game on board a ship since it brings people together to drink and have fun, as well as gives the opportunity to win some extra cash. Lets face it, every crew members primary purpose for working on a ship is to make money. Almost every time when there is a crew bingo, the majority of the players are Filipinos and what is even more fascinating is that they seem to win the grand prize just as much as they love playing the game. Now, here is a fun fact, almost all the raffle games are organized and won by a Filipino crew members.
Karaoke
If you work on a ship and you have a talent to sing, make sure you find out when the karaoke will take place at least a day ahead and be present to sing up for it at least an hour before the event. Otherwise you will find a line as long as the line in crew mess during dinner time and all made up from crew members of the Filipino nationality. They are awesome singers and they love singing, so no wonder they are the ones who organize the karaoke nights and as often as twice a week.
FOOD
If you work in the dinning department, you must have noticed that most of the chefs and cooks on board one ship are of the Filipino nationality. They are very good in making homemade dishes, but even better, they are more famous for making private dinner parties with their paisanos. One might find the Indian nationals in the same pot when it comes to food as the Filipinos.
MOVIES
If you ever wanna watch the newest and most popular movie, take a guess who might have it to borrow it from. If you guessed that a crew member of Filipino nationality, then you guessed right. Filipinos love watching movies cause it is one of the least expensive entertainments on board a ship. So if you ever need a good movie to watch just ask one of your Filipinos co-workers and most likely he or she will open up his or her lap top or hard drive where most of the times they have between 100-1000 movies.
