Turkish Cruise Ship Goes up in Flames

The Didim Mavisi was largely destroyed during the fire, despite the combined efforts of the crew and the Turkish Coast Guard.

Turkish cruise ship Didim Mavisi, running tours to the Aegean islands, sailed this Friday from the port town of Ayvalik district of Balikesir province in Turkey. Shortly after leaving the port fire broke out in the galley.

Quickly, the fire spread out on board the ship and captain turned the ship to a nearby bay. All passengers and all crew members were evacuated and brought to safety. A few passengers jumped into the water with their life jackets on and swim ashore.
