Woman Dies Attempting to Board Cruise Ship From a Tender Boat

A female passenger died after an accident that occurred as she attempted to board the Cunards Queen Elizabeth cruise ship from one of its tenders boat used while it was moored off the coast of Sihanoukville In Cambodia.

 

Cunard released a statement saying “We can confirm that very sadly a passenger died earlier today following an accident whilst boarding Queen Elizabeth from a tender. Two of our crew members reacted very quickly and jumped in to rescue her. She was then taken to the medical centre but despite our very best efforts she died. Our customer care team is fully involved and will be offering every support including to those passengers who witnessed the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. “ 

One of the passengers onboard praises the crew saying “Having disembarked QE in Hong Kong after a fabulous cruise my heart goes out to the crew and passengers on board. The tender crew are outstanding helping passengers alight from the tender to the ship. We have many friends on board the QE. I'm sure you are all feeling very sad tonight. “

The statement says the woman died “following an accident whilst boarding Queen Elizabeth from a tender,” but did not elaborate.

Cunard spokeswoman Michele Andjel on Thursday confirmed that the accident occurred while the Queen Elizabeth was anchored in the waters off Sihanoukville.

Ms. Andjel said the passenger was treated in the ship’s medical center, but declined to provide more details about the passenger or the accident. Queen Elizabeth left Southhampton, England, on January 10 on a 112-night trip.
