With the official handover by Meyer Werft  Shipyards in Bremerhaven, Germany P&O Cruises welcomed the new cruise ship Arvia to its fleet.

The second LNG-fuelled cruise ship of the Helios-class for the British cruise company was built at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, just like her sister ship P&O Iona.

After the handover in Bremerhaven, the P&O Arvia set sail to Southampton. On December 23, 2022, the first guests will board the P&O Arvia which will set sail on a two-week Christmas and New Year's voyage to the Canary Islands.

The ship was handed over about 4 months after leaving the building dock in Papenburg at the end of August. In the final phase, there were delays due to current delivery bottlenecks, which led to the cancellation of the originally planned maiden voyage. At the beginning of November, the P&O Arvia was transferred via the Ems to Eemshaven in the Netherlands. From there, sea trials were conducted on the North Sea, during which no unexpected problems arose. Today's handover in Bremerhaven took place about two weeks later than planned.

“The current tense global situation, with supply bottlenecks and material shortages, poses challenges for the construction of such complex cruise ships. But thanks to the team’s performance we were able to overcome these hurdles and today once again hand over a ship that meets the high Meyer standards. For this I would like to thank all those involved for their great commitment,” says Managing Director Jan Meyer.

The P&O Arvia is one of the most modern cruise ships on the market. The drive is based on liquid gas LNG reducing emissions compared to conventional ship drives. The latest P&O ship offers guests a wide range of sports and entertainment options. A maximum of 6264 guests can be accommodated in 2610 cabins and suites on a ship that is 345 meters long and 42 meters wide. The crew of the P&O Arvia will consist of 1762 people.
