Barbados Will Build Massive Cruise Ship Facility

Plans for the ultra-modern Sugar Point Cruise Facility were unveiled yesterday during a ceremony at Hilton Barbados and the initial cost is estimated at $300 million.

Barbados Government plans to construct a massive cruise facility in order to accommodate some of the world’s biggest ships. This project will reclaim 15 acres of land from the sea off Trevor’s Way in Bridgetown.

Plans for the ultra-modern Sugar Point Cruise Facility were unveiled yesterday during a ceremony at Hilton Barbados and the initial cost is estimated at  $300 million.

George Hutson, the Minister of International Business and International Transport announced to the audience that included officials of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Barbados Port Inc., Barbados Cruise Terminal and the Barbados Tourism Authority that phase one would include the construction of two cruise piers, a major retail area and parking facilities, arrival and departure facilities along with underground electrical and water installations.

When is finished the completed facility will be themed around Barbadossugar and rum culture and will incorporate the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex.
