Carnival will invest in new cruise terminal in Barcelona

Carnival Corporation has reached an agreement with the Port of Barcelona to build and operate a new cruise terminal (Terminal E) in the Moll Adossat Catalan installation, for which estimated an investment of over 20 million.

As reported by the Port on Friday in a statement, the new terminal is expected to be operational in 2016, will have approximately 10,000 square meters in area and be ready to receive cruise ships 'post-panamax', with a capacity of 4,500 passengers operating in 'turnaround'-start and / or completion schedule.

The agreement was made official on Friday at a meeting of the President of the Generalitat, Artur Mas, the executive vice president of Carnival Corporation, Giora Israel, and his vice president, Michel Nestour, and which also helped the president of the Port of Barcelona , Sixtus Cambra, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias.

According to the Port, this investment aims to meet the future needs of the industry to serve ever-larger boats that also have Barcelona as a base port for the Mediterranean routes.

Terminal E will be managed under concession by Carnival Corporation, and the Port of Barcelona will make an additional investment of 3.5 million euros, of which two million will be devoted to the development and implementation of the proposed development of the environment and 1.5 million terminal improvement works marking the spring.

Carnival Corporation operates since 2005, known as Palacruceros terminal or Terminal D-Moll Adossat the Port of Barcelona, which will soon be extended to the construction of a single storey building of 1,300 square meters in the southern part of the present building.

Barcelona is a leading cruise port in Europe and the Mediterranean and ranks fourth in the world rankings, only preceded by the three major ports in the State of Florida, and expects to close this year with a volume of 2.6 million cruise.
