Costa Cruises Chef Competes in Barilla Pasta World Championship

This year the annual Barilla Pasta World Championship took place in Milan and Parma from 27 to 29 September. The competition organized by Barilla, world’s market leader in pasta production, was under the guidance of five award-winning Italian chefs and two international experts.

Twenty talented chefs from four continents, selected by the International School of Italian Cuisine ALMA competed for the title.

Among the representatives of the Italian cuisine, was Luigi Carotenuto, Costa Cruises Executive Chef from 2006. Luigi Carotenuto, who before embarking on board worked in numerous Michelin star restaurants, competed with his simple and creative red shrimp’s spaghetti. Luigi has built his culinary identity sailing the seven seas aboard Costa cruise ships and his passion for pasta took him to his next destination, Barilla Pasta World Championship.

After two days of elimination rounds and semifinals in Milan, the champion chef was anunced on September 29 in Parma. This year the title Pasta World Champion went to Accursio Lotà, chef at Solare - Ristorante Italiano, Pizzeria, Lounge in San Diego, USA.
