Cruise ship and Ferry Collide in Hong Kong - 37 People Die 6 Crewmembers Arrested

Tragic incident claimed lives of 37 people and more than 100 injured in the collision betwen ferry and a cruise ship in Hong Kong on Monday.
The incident took place at 8:30 p.m off the Lamma Island which is the third largest in Hong Kong, when people were celebrating China’s National Day.
The cruise ship was charted by the Hong Kong Electric company for their employees and family members to celebrate the national holiday at the Victoria Harbor and was carrying 120 passengers and crew. According to the local media shortly after the collision the cruise ship sank and the ferry was damaged but did not capsize.
The ferry involved in the collision was carrying dozens of passengers was operated by the Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry company

Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying said that 37 bodies had been recovered and the search for the rest of the passengers is made difficult by low visibility and obstacles on the boat. Details about the victims were not given, but the local media RTHK reported that among the victims are children.

“All of Hong Kong’s emergency forces are focused here,” Leung said earlier. “Wide-ranging rescue work is being carried out on in the sea, land and in the air.” Leung said he didn’t know what caused the collision but he promised thrall investigation of this disaster.

The Hong Kong police arrested 6 crewmembers involved in the incident.
