Fire on Thomson Spirit

Thomson Spirit operated by UK tour operator Thomson Cruises, caught fire this morning while the ship was docked in the port of Livorno, Italy. The fire alarm went off at around 11:20 a.m, when black smoke began to rise from the stern of the ship at a dome structure used as a pizzeria. Italian media reports that nobody is injured from 1288 passengers and 480 crew members who were onboard at the time of the accident.

Thomson Spirit crew acted immediately and extinguished the flames. Currently Coast Guard safety inspectors are onboard together with LLoyd representatives, classification authority to check if the ship is fit to sail.  Thomson Spirit arrived in Livorno this morning at 6 a.m and is scheduled to leave the port at 7p.m. tonight.
