The game studio Image Power has announced a new simulation game called Cruise Ship Manager. The game is in development stage and is set to be released in the second half of 2022. According to the company "Cruise Ship Manager" is a game where players will be able to manage the entire cruise ship, resources, sell cruises to passengers, manage revenue and costs, and take care of the crew. Players can also create cruise itineraries and choose if they want to offer short cruises or voyages around the world. The game development company has set a quarter of a million dollars budget for the game “Cruise Ship Manager” said Marcin Zaleński, Image Power Creative Director for Stockwatch.
“We are just starting work on the game. A complete scenario was prepared, and the entire production plan was set out for 13 months,” said Marcin Zaleński. “The maritime theme is particularly close to us, so in parallel to the work on our flagship title, Yacht Mechanic Simulator, we decided to prepare a unique game about managing a luxury passenger ship. It will combine the features of management games as well as the more strategic ones, there will also be humorous and controversial situations that we will put in front of the players. We will take care of the exciting gameplay through adrenaline-boosting random events, such as a trip through the Bermuda Triangle, storms on the ocean or fires and engine failures. We want players to feel that they have a real impact on the situation on the ship and learn to quickly react to emerging problems and challenges - says Marcin Zaleński, Creative Director Image Power SA.
Image Power released a video trailer of how the game should look like once it's ready for release.
The key to success is to manage multiple aspects of the ship’s daily operations and create maximum profit while taking care of the crew and guests. For example, players will be in charge of recruiting crew and need to take care of their well-being. The list of things to do will be huge. Players will be able to open a casino, bar or outdoor swimming pool on the ship or offer premium drinks for an additional fee. There is also a jail cell for people breaking the rules and behaving in an inappropriate manner. When setting sail on a journey lasting several weeks, players will have to take care of the right amount of food and fuel. They will be in charge to secure funds for the maintenance of the ship and safety.
What we like and dislike about the game
The idea behind this project as well as multiply aspects of the cruise ship daily operations incorporated in this game shows the true complexity of managing a cruise ship operation. From the video trailer, the game developer has covered almost all aspects of the ship's maintenance, itineraries, revenue, crew and pax.
However, there are some things that we dislike about this game such as dividing passengers in 1st and 2nd. This concept is from the time of the Titanic and does not fit the modern cruise lines. Also, there are pax and crew behaviors which some people might find offensive.
