Indian Seafarers to receive benefits after NUSI signs important MoU

Important Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) and the Government of India represented by Director General of Shipping Mr. Shri Amitabh Kumar, during the Maritime India Summit (MIS) held from 2nd-4th March 2021.

The National Union of Seafarers of India announced that for the first time in history, under the initiatives of NUSI, the following six MoU have been signed which will be an important part of the Maritime India Summit along with several Memorandum of Understanding signed by the shipping companies, ports, training institutes, shipping associations, with the Directorate General of Shipping. The efforts and initiatives by NUSI as a trade union will benefit seafarers in the field of welfare, training, medical, education, and nation-building.

    • 1)     Financial Assistance for Covid-19 Vaccination to all ranks of seafarers.
    • 2)     Sponsorship to seafarers/family for studying at the Indian Chapter of World Maritime University, Sweden.
    • 3)     Investments in Training including Skill Enhancement course at zero cost to seafarers.
    • 4)     Financial Medical Assistance to seafarers and their families.
    • 5)     Financial Educational Assistance to serving seafarers and their families.
    • 6)     Financial Educational Assistance to retired, deceased seafarers' families.

The six MoU are up to a tune of Rs. 225 Crores in a span of five years.  It is a great achievement of the initiatives of NUSI as a trade union with the support of the shipping companies for the benefit of seafarers and their families throughout India in particular and the shipping industry in general.
