The much anticipated day on which the RCG crew members can stop wearing masks on cruise ships at all times has finally arrived. From today, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises crew can remove their masks in all guests and crew, indoor or outdoor areas. The obligation for the crew to wear face masks is the latest COVID-19 measure to be relaxed as the cruise industry continues on its path to normality following the COVID pandemic.
“We are happy to announce that from today masks are optional for crew. If you are willing to wear mask, it should be with the company’s logo. This is a huge step towards our return to normal life. The decision to wear a mask is up to every crew member” reads Celebrity Cruises announcement to its crew.
Crew Center has been informed by several crew members that Royal Caribbean International is also dropping all mask requirements.
In August Celebrity Cruise rolled out a pilot program on two of its ships to test the masks-free policy on selected crew. The cruise line said that if the results are promising this will lead to even more relaxed protocols across the fleet.
“As the world opens and our protocols begin to relax across our fleet, we are reviewing policies and procedures constantly to make sure our fleet feels cared for and heard. We are hopeful that this program will lead to even more relaxed protocols onboard so we can all get back to what we do best, offering the most amazing cruise experience to our guests!” Celebrity Cruises said.
Wearing masks at all times onboard is not pleasant and has been a challenge for the crew. During the past two years, the crew members experienced many challenges and showed great resilience by following each and every health and safety protocols and restrictions.
