Royal Caribbean delays Hong Kong cruises on Spectrum of the Seas

Royal Caribbean is postponing Spectrum of the Seas short cruises to nowhere out of Hong Kong. The ship was set to start cruising from Hong Kong on July 30, however, according to local media reports the cruises are now rescheduled for September.

Royal Caribbean International recently sent a letter to the travel agents stating that it is making every effort to complete the crew quarantine and vaccination arrangements. "Unfortunately, the original scheduled sailing date is likely to be delayed." the company said.  The sales of tickets for July and August are currently suspended, and compensation will be made in accordance with the terms. The cruise line hopes to announce the details of the first voyage in the following week.

The Hong Kong government announced earlier that cruise ships are allowed to resume operations at the end of July. After the announced Dream Cruises and Royal Caribbean started preparations for the upcoming season. Dream Cruises cruise ship Genting Dream arrived in Hong Kong earlier this month and the cruises will go on as scheduled. A few days ago Genting Dream" has berthed at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal where medical staff boarded the ship to vaccinate the crew with the first dose. The second dose is expected to be completed in mid-July. 

Spectrum of the Seas arrived in Hong Kong in mid-June, and hundreds of crew members are currently in quarantine on board the ship. Tan Guangshun, the chairman of the International Association of Air Travel Agency Chamber of Commerce, said that because Spectrum of the Seas arrived in Hong Kong later than the "Genting Dream", the follow-up efforts were postponed, including the later completion of the test results.

Passengers sailing out of Hong Kong need to be fully vaccinated and eligible to board the ship 14 days after receiving the second dose. The crew must be quarantined on board for 21 days and must complete two doses of the vaccine. All passengers must hold a 48-hour negative test result before boarding, and install "Travel with peace of mind" app. One of the additional safety features will be the contact tracking devices.
