Quiet cruise in the Mediterranean waters threatened to be fatal for a 77 year old passenger onboard Costa Classica. He was suffering from fluid accumulation in the lungs ( pulmonary edema), and due to his condition last night he was evacuated  by the Italian Coast Guard.

The medical emergency occurred around 21:30 when Costa Classica was 15 miles off the coast of Leuca. The captain call the authorities informing them about the poor health of the traveler. Rescue response was  immediate, by sending a patrol boat, that due to the adverse sea conditions faced quite a few difficulties to complete the rescue.

Around half past midnight, the passenger was unloaded and transferred to the Salento hospital.
