Splendour Of The Seas Hit by Storm, Passengers in Panic

The effects of a storm surprised passengers and crew of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Splendour Of The Seas, on the night of 23 January. Passengers who were aboard Splendour Of The Seas, reported moments of panic and tension because of a storm that the ship faced in the River Plate between Argentina and Uruguay. They arrived in Brazil on Sunday (26) at the port of Santos. Strong wind and rain destroyed bar bottles and dishes, and forced the passengers to stay in their cabins. According to reports, the storm caused a slope of seven degrees on the vessel, which sparked an emergency meeting with the commander of the ship, where the procedures were explained to face the situation. Some passengers said, informally, the commander mentioned that the slope reached ten degrees. Because of the slope, the water invaded the ship, causing panic among the passengers, many of them children. The ships senior officers decided to cancel the scheduled scale to Montevideo and went straight to Santos, its final destination. "Many people shouted that the ship would sink, and all were going to die," said, the passenger Natália Alves.  According to Royal Caribbean International, the ship suffered a slight incline while sailing in the River Plate because of a heavy storm. Due to bad weather, the ship cleared the scale in Montevideo and headed for the port of Santos, which docked yesterday. Pullmantur Empress says that the ship, which sailed from Santos in the last 19 days, with the target Itajai, Punta del Este and Buenos Aires, faced a severe storm at sea while sailing the River Plate Basin. Despite the bad weather condition, the journey was safely performed.
