Staff Member Allegedly Raped by Crew Member Onboard Carnival Liberty

Australian staff member working onboard Carnival Liberty in casino department has been allegedly raped by a crew member while on board. It was reported the rape took place in one of the ship's cabins.

Carnival Liberty is currently in Puerto Rico where the authorities had detained the man accused of raping the woman. 

Jennifer De La Cruz, a spokeswoman for Carnival, confirmed the cruise ship employee is Australian. 

However, the unidentified crew member had not been charged. 

Sex Crimes Division of Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of San Juan closed the investigation regarding an alleged case of rape on the Carnival Liberty cruise ship anchored in Old San Juan.

Police said the woman expressed lack of interest in the progress of the investigation and terminated the charges.

According to the police complaint, the incident occurred at 4:00 am yesterday in one of the cabins of the cruise, where supposedly 26 year old crew member, a citizen of Zimbabwe, raped the Australian staff member.
