A US passenger is suing Celebration Cruise Line after being severely hurt in a fall down a staircase aboard Celebration ship, according to court documents filed this week.

On July 30, 2011, Karen Kollinger, 53, fell head first down a staircase after the heel of her shoe got snagged under a raised metal strip holding the carpet down, Palm Beach Gardens attorney said Mark R. Hanson said Wednesday.
A jury will be expected to determine the damages due to Kollinger, but so far her medical bills have totaled about $100,000, he added.

Celebration failed to properly maintain its cruise ship is a "reasonably safe condition for use," but that it failed to correct a "dangerous condition" which it either knew of or should have been aware of.
Glenn Ryerson, Celebration's senior vice president, sales and marketing, said Wednesday he didn't have any information about Kollinger's lawsuit, but as a general rule the line doesn't comment on lawsuits.

Bahamas Celebration made headlines in March after a Canadian woman went missing in international waters after a trip to The Bahamas. Rescue efforts werent able to find her and were later called off by authorities.
