The cruise ship Aidabella collided with the dock at the Hamburg cruise terminal in Germany, causing dents, paint scrapes, and damage to stern. The incident happened at around 8 a.m. on Thursday while the ship was docking to its assigned spot at the dock.
After inspecting the vessel, authorities said that the ship suffered minor damage and there are no reported injuries among passengers and crew. However, the ship was not allowed to continue on its next cruise which will be postponed for several days.
The damage is centered on the stern, to the right of the ship's name "AIDAbella" where you can see a decent dent, but also a vertical crack.
Aida Cruises said a technical issue is suspected to be the cause of the incident and that the ship will be inspected and repaired immediately.
The cruise ship Aidabella returned to its homeport Hamburg after completing a 26-day voyage this Thursday and was originally scheduled to set sail for a 43-day Caribbean voyage this evening. This cruise will probably start in a few days after all technical issues are addressed.
UPDATE: The ship’s next departure is scheduled for Sunday.
The latest news is that Aidabella can be repaired. The departure is now scheduled for Sunday if everything goes according to the plan for repair.
Built in 2018 at Meyer Werft shipyard, Aidabella is a 69,203 Gross Tonnage ship with a maximum capacity of 2500 guests and 590 crew.
