Allure of the Seas Crew Members Arrested for Smuggling Cocaine

During a routine control, Port Everglades authorities arrested two crew members of RCCL Allure of the Seas on possession and smuggling of cocaine. On Sunday Allure of the Seas was coming back to his homeport in Fort Lauderdale after finishing 7 Night Western Caribbean Cruise visiting Haiti, Jamaica and Mexico.

Winston Hyman and Jimmel Thom attempted to disembark Allure of the Seas at around 2 p.m. and were stopped when they put a backpack in the X-ray scanner. Inspectors noticed that something strange was in the backpack so Thom removed his computer tablet and Hyman took out his laptop. According to the report Border Protection authorities and Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were called in to inspect the backpack and found substance that tested positive for cocaine.

During the interrogation, Jimmel Thom confessed that he knew about the cocaine and that Winston Hyman received the backpack from a man when the ship was in Jamaica. The man said that after delivering the cocaine Thom will be paid $2,000 and Hyman would get $1,000.
Winston Hyman told the police that he wasn’t aware of the cocaine in the backpack. He said that Thom came to his cabin with a backpack and Hyman put his laptop inside. Thom told Hyman that he should carry the backpack because his laptop is heavier.
