Azamara Club Cruises to Add third Cruise Ship to Fleet

Azamara Club Cruises could expand her fleet with third ship with takeover from cruise ship by Pullmantur Cruises. The rumor comes from sources close to the company and also all contracts for Pullmantur crewmembers who need to embark next November are canceled. Azamara plans to take over the cruise ship Pullmantur Empress built in 1990 and refitted in 2004 with gross tonnage of 48500 sailing under the flag of Malta. Unlike Azamara Journey and Quest with 30277 tones Pullmantur Empress is much bigger ship and will need to undergo extensive dry dock to meet Azamara standards. Empress has large marble decor and large glass windows that make it very attractive to navigate as Azamara cruise ship. However, the Empress does not have many balcony cabins, and they would need a major renovation to acquire the new role in the Azamara fleet.

Azamara Club Cruises and Pullmantur are two subsidiaries of Royal Caribbean group. First ship for Azamara Club Cruises, Journey was also taken over from Pullmantur in 2008. Back then Celebrity Cruises took over Pullmantur Blue Dream and give its ship Celebrity Zenith to Pullmantur Cruises. Celebrity Cruises plan was to incorporate this ship to their fleet under the name Celebrity Journey but after three months they decided to open a new premium cruise company Azamara Cruises later known as Azamara Club Cruises.
