Princess Cruises Crew Start Petition Against New Tattoo Policy

Princess Cruises is facing pushback from its crew after announcing a new tattoo policy that requires all visible tattoos to be fully covered while on duty, effective September 10.

In response, crew members have launched a petition on Change.org calling on Princess Cruises to reverse the decision. The petition argues that the change is unnecessary, unfair, and harmful, given that the company’s existing rules already prohibited offensive or inappropriate tattoos. It also notes that those most affected will be guest-facing staff, especialy those working long hours outdoors in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, who will now be required to wear tattoo covers in hot, humid conditions. Crew describe the policy as diminishing their humanity and individuality, treating them as faceless workers.

Crew members say the change not only limits self-expression but also undermines Princess Cruises’ commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

“Personal expression, including tattoos, is part of a welcoming and authentic environment for both crew and guests,” the petition explains. “Imposing stricter rules in this area risks sending the opposite message.”

They also point to the fact that tattoos are widely accepted among passengers. Nearly one in three adult guests reportedly have tattoos, often proudly displayed during their cruises. This raises the question: if tattoos are celebrated by guests, why should they be suppressed among the very crew who deliver the Princess experience?

The petition calls on Princess Cruises to uphold its values of inclusivity, respect, and fairness by scrapping the new restrictions and recognizing crew members as individuals rather than simply uniforms. For those who wish to support the crew, the campaign invites signatures to demand that Princess Cruises align its policies with the diverse and modern cultures.

The campaign invites supporters to sign the petition and stand with crew members in demanding a reversal of the policy.
