After a 23-day Trans-Pacific voyage Carnival Splendor arrived in Sydney Harbour. The ship was welcomed into the country with a special escort by sister brand P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific Adventure before sailing past the Sydney Opera House and arriving in port. Her arrival marks the first cruise ship to enter Australian waters carrying international passengers in nearly three years.
Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy was in Sydney to participate in the ship's homecoming. "Accompanied by Pacific Adventure, Carnival Splendor's return to Sydney Harbor was the stunning moment we've been waiting for," she said.
"The return of Carnival Splendor to Sydney is a milestone, not only for us, but for the Australian cruise industry." Her arrival marks the first cruise ship to enter Australian waters carrying international passengers in nearly three years. The return of Splendor also kicks off an exciting time for Carnival Cruise Line as it celebrates 10 years in Australia in October and Brisbane is the first to experience our newest ship, Carnival Luminosa, in November.
“I was thrilled to join Carnival Australia to launch their 2022/23 cruise season. The cruise industry is so important to our state, bringing thousands of visitors into NSW ports and injecting billions into the economy. It was a truly breathtaking sight to see the Carnival Splendor back in Sydney Harbour," said Ben Franklin- NSW Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, the Arts and Regional Youth.
Carnival Splendor's transpacific voyage to Sydney began in Seattle on September 6. Guests on the special Carnival Journeys voyage took a "trip through time" when they crossed the International Date Line and also explored Hawaii and the Fiji Islands.
The ship's first voyage from Sydney will be a four-day getaway to the pristine Moreton Island, departing on Saturday 1 October. Splendor will continue to offer a variety of Australian sailings throughout the year.
