Carnival Corporation has spent $81 million on a new maritime training center in the Netherlands named Arison Maritime Centre. The world’s biggest cruise ship operator of around 110 ships is installing bridge and engineroom simulators in the new facility in Almere, near Amsterdam - Holland. The construction of 10 000 m2 complex started in 2014 and is scheduled to be operational in 2016.
When finished the training center will be able to train 6500 captains and (technical) officers a year with the most advanced techniques and industrial resources. The Dutch company Dura Vermeer is responsible for the development and construction of this ultramodern center.
The heart of the training center consists of four simulators located in the basement of the building, where large part of the 'bridge' is recreated and images projected on a curved screen with a diameter of twenty meters. In the center of the building will be atrium with a height of 22 meters.
Besides the Center for Maritime Training Simulator Carnival Corporation will accommodate its officers in a hotel constructed as integral part of the center with accommodation of 176 rooms.
Arison Maritime Centre will be inaugurated in July 2016. “We have invested €75 million in the Arison centre, including a five-storey training facility and 12-storey hotel to accommodate our trainees,” announced Mr Husted in a conference in Singapore.
The Arison Maritime Centre will have four full-mission bridge simulators, with bridge wings for berthing simulations, and six part-bridge navigation simulators.
