In an exciting day of positive news across the cruise industry, Celebrity Cruises announced they will be the first cruise line to set sail from the United States, with the cruise ship Celebrity Edge. Celebrity Cruises CEO and President Lisa Lutoff-Perlo shared the exciting news on social media.

“We’re making history today! After receiving the green light from the CDC, #CelebrityEdge will set sail from Fort Lauderdale on June 26, making her the first ship to sail US waters once again.” Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said. “For the past 15 months our conversations with friends and loved ones about seeing the world have been accompanied by the phrase ‘someday’. I’m beyond proud and excited to say that day has arrived.” added Celebrity Cruises President

Celebrity Cruises have been preparing for this day for months, and the crew onboard Celebrity Edge is at the final stage of preparations to welcome guests aboard once again.

The ship was in Fort Lauderdale yesterday where the second batch of crew was vaccinated against COVID-19. The first batch already received the first dose and in the following weeks all crew on board will be fully vaccinated.

Capt. Kate McCue the first US woman to command a major cruise liner will join Celebrity Edge in June ahead of the restart of cruise operations.

On June 26, Celebrity Edge will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise to Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Nassau. The ship will sail at reduced capacity with fully vaccinated crew, and passengers over the age of 16.
