The latest Celebrity Cruises ship, Celebrity Edge passed its first-ever USPH (the United States Public Health) Inspection. CDC Officers boarded the vessel on December 9, in Port Everglades, Florida and after several hours’ of inspection, the ship received 92 out of 100 USPH points. CDC website has yet to release the official score, however, several crew members have confirmed this information.
Considering the fact that Edge was announced as the most anticipated ship of the year this is quite a low score, even more, because Celebrity Cruises is an upscale cruise line with high standards.
According to some crew members, Celebrity Edge heads of departments were disappointed by the score that they didn’t even announced where they lost points, which is standard practice on Celebrity Cruises after each USPH inspections.
So what went wrong? Well, we will have to wait for the official CDC report which is not yet available on their website. However, the crew on board says that the ship was not ready from the start and many things needed to be fixed along the way.
Below are the scores of the first USPH Inspections of all Celebrity Cruise ships. As you can see Celebrity Cruises has a strong track record with 4 out of 9 cruise ships receiving perfect 100 points, and 4 ships with solid scores between 97-99 points on their first ever USPH inspection. Only Celebrity Millennium received 93 points on its first USPH Inspection in 2001.
