Celebrity Edge is at sea for the very first time

Submitted by jozo on

The latest Celebrity Cruises ship Celebrity Edge, scheduled to join the fleet in December this year took to the sea for the first test trials this Thursday, July 26, at 5 pm. The 306-meter long liner set sail from Saint-Nazaire, France, and is scheduled to complete the 3-days trials and return to the port on Sunday around 6 am.

French shipbuilder Chantiers de l'Atlantique, former STX France, reported that Celebrity Edge left the outfitting quay in preparation for its initial tests at sea. In order to assess the ship's seaworthiness, sea trials are conducted by the shipbuilder on all new vessels. During the trial, rigorous tests are performed on the ship’s maneuvering capabilities, machinery, engines and other important onboard systems.

The popular Facebook page “Cruise Celebrity” released an interesting video of the ship’s route during the first day of the sea trials saying “It’s been a dizzy night on Celebrity Edge”

It’s been a “dizzy” night on #CelebrityEDGE

The $1 billion Edge class ship lives up to its name, with amazing shapes and new generation design, including a mobile platform named “Magic Carpet” which will serve as a bar and restaurant with a breathtaking view of the ocean.
