North Wales Coastguard rescued a crew member today from the Disney Magic while the cruise ship was sailing the Irish Sea, reports Daily Post. Coast Guard watchstanders received a call from the officers of Disney Magic, reporting that the crew member needed urgent medical attention and requested medical evacuation to a land-based hospital.
The Coast Guard immediately send a helicopter from the base in Caernarfon to intersect the ship and assist with the transfer of the casualty on Wednesday morning.
According to witnesses on board the rescue crew was winched onto the ship and remained on board for around 20 minutes before the patient was transferred to the helicopter and on to hospital.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: “At 7:25 am today (28 July), the coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon was sent to transfer a casualty on board a cruise ship in the Irish Sea to a hospital in Rhyl.”
The identity of the crew member or the reason for hospital treatment has not been disclosed.
Disney Magic departed from Liverpool last night for a three-day staycation cruise around the UK when the rescue operation happened.
