Costa and Aida Cruise Ships will Implement Robots as Part of the Crew in 2016

The French company Aldebaran and Costa Group signed an agreement for purchasing Pepper robots for use onboard Costa and Aida cruise ships. Pepper can read human emotions and interact with the guests.

Trail versions have already been tested on board AIDAstella and approved for the cruise ships needs and specifications. The first robots will be send in spring 2016 on Costa Diadema and AIDAprima.

Pepper will be part of the crew and start assisting and guiding guests when they board the cruise ship.

Basically Pepper robots will assist guests in providing recommendations and suggestions for onboard restaurants, excursions an events. Aida and Costa robots will communicate in three languages German, Italian and English.  The rest of the robots will join complete Costa Group cruise ship fleet by the end of summer 2016.

This humanoid robot was created in Japan and is designed to recognize main human emotions in order to interact with humans proactively. The robot is 1,20 meter tall and weighs 28 kilograms. His 3D camera detects people and their movements and has three omnidirectional wheels for mobility together with 10 inch touch screen on his chests.
