The Brevard County Police in Florida arrested Red Bluff city council member Suren Patel, on fraud charges as an out of state fugitive. Action News reports that he tried to flee U.S. on a Disney Fantasy cruise ship departing on July 23, from Port Canaveral. Patel is charged with public embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars, conspiracy to commit welfare fraud, and insurance fraud. This June the charges were filed and arrest warrant was issued. Authorities went to Sacramento to arrest him, but they could not find Patel. Finally he was arrested in Port Canaveral, Florida by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and turned over to Brevard County Sheriffs for extradition to Sacramento, California.

According to Action News, Patel was arrested after he boarded Disney Fantasy Cruise ship. If this is the true, there was a major security breach by U.S. Customs and Border Protection because he needed to be arrested before he boarded the ship. Disney Fantasy is on 7 Night Western Caribbean Cruise visiting Cozumel, George Town, Falmouth, and Castaway Cay.
