Crew Member Arrested for Sexually Abusing Teenage Boy

Carnival Cruise Lines crew member was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a teenage boy onboard Carnival Valor.

The 46 year-old Yovany Suazo-Batiz, cabin steward, was arrested at Port Canaveral when the cruise ship reached its final destination.

He was charged with sexual battery of a person under 16 years of age and “lewd and lascivious molestation”.

The teenage boy told his father he was in the sauna and was followed into the shower area where the alleged abuse took place. The victim’s father and other passengers detained Suazo-Batiz.

Carnival Valor Captain reported the incident before arriving in Port Canaveral, where the ship was met by a detachment from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Carnival Cruise Lines spokesperson said Suazo-Batiz, who is from Honduras, was cooperating with police and the FBI.
