A 28-year-old female Filipino crew member on the cruise ship Costa Fortuna was evacuated by the Italian Coast Guard yesterday, August 2, 2019, after she suffered serious head injury onboard. According to local sources, the incident was reported late in the evening while the ship was near Sanremo, Italy. The crew member slipped in her cabin and sustained a serious head injury from the fall.
Her roommate was the first who raised the alarm, and the captain immediately alerted the Coast Guard. The CP864 patrol boat was dispatched to the ship, coordinated by the Imperia operations center.
The young woman was evacuated, and accompanied by the ship’s doctor, at the old port of the Ligurian city and transferred to Borea hospital, where the medical staff is monitoring her condition. In the meantime, investigations are working to clarify what exactly happened on board and the dynamics of the fall. According to preliminary reports the young woman, an animator on Costa Fortuna, has slipped on the floor of her cabin, injuring her head violently. The crew member suffered cranial trauma and at the arrival of the rescue, she was unconscious.
