Crew Member Jumps Overboard Cruise Ship in Alaska

Brazilian crew member sailing on NCL Norwegian Sun went overboard in Alaska on Thursday. Alaska police identified the crew member Jonas Fillipe de Miranda Santiago, 26, from Sao Paolo, Brazil. Norwegian Sun CCTV cameras captured the moment when the crew member jumping overboard without life jacket at 4:16 am Thursday, said Colin Boyle from US Coast Guard. The search was called off shortly after 10 pm on the same day. The police said they were notified of what happened just after 5pm on Thursday. Human body was found on Friday afternoon by a fisherman near Juneau appear to be those of a cruise-ship crew member who went overboard the day before, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers say the remains are consistent with a Thursday report from the Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Norwegian Sun that Jonas Fillipe de Miranda Santiago.

"We were saddened to learn that a crew member aboard Norwegian Sun jumped overboard in the early morning of July 2, while the ship was sailing near Juneau," Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement issued Friday evening. "Norwegian is providing full support to the fellow crew members on board and our thoughts and prayers go out to the individual's family during this difficult time."
