Cruise Lines Ban the Use of Galaxy Note 7

Several cruise lines have banned the use of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone aboard their ships. The Korean manufacturer has recently launched a recall for these mobile devices, due to a defect in the battery may overheat and catch fire. The cruise companies that have imposed ban are the Carnival Corporation & plc and  Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. brands, as well as Disney Cruise Line . The ban applies to both guests crew members.

On their UK website Carnival released the following guidelines “Guests and crew in possession of an applicable Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone must take the following precautions while onboard: Turn off device, Disconnect device from any charging equipment, Disable all applications that could involuntarily activate the device (e.g., alarm clock), Protect the power switch to prevent its unintentional activation.”

Disney cruise line blog has posted a picture of the Disney Cruise sign in the terminal building saying “If you own a Galaxy Note7 and have not replaced your recalled device, please power it off and do not charge it for the duration of the cruise. We recommend storing electronics and valuables in your stateroom safe.” DCL have also placed a notice on the Personal Navigators asking passengers with a recalled Samsung Galaxy Note7 to power off the device during the entire voyage.

The German Cruise Line AIDA released the following safety precaution: “Your safety is our priority. Therefore we would like to bring your attention of the risk when using your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on board. Because of faulty lithium-ion batteries the phone can overheat, and can lead to dangerous explosions. If you are in possession of such a device, we strongly recommend against using during your trip. Please turn your device off immediately. Pay attention to the apps that can turn the phone automatically, such as the alarm function.”

A Crystal Cruise crew member Antonio Sousa, send us the following information “We also receive a memo on our crew board ... both guest and crew were informed to stop using immediately galaxy note 7 unless the phone has already been send to repair prior to this information.”

The following cruise lines have banned the use of Galaxy Note 7: AIDA Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises , Carnival Cruise Line, CDF Croisieres de France, Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, Crystal Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Fathom, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Pullmantur Cruises, P & O Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Seabourn Cruise Line, TUI Cruises.
