Cruise Ship Passengers and Crew Evacuated Over Bomb Alert

Victoria Police evacuated passengers and crew from cruise ships docked in the Australian Port of Melbourne. The alarm was triggered for a bomb treat by the explosives sniffer dog spotting suspicious package in one of the vegetable pallets bound for Holland America Line MS Noordam. Police immediately evacuated the ships in the port, Southern Cross station and nearby offices.

Bomb squad was dispatched to the pier provision area and located the suspicious pallet. By moving away in a safe distance the bomb technicians dismantled the pallet and luckily it was a falls alarm. At around 4pm local time police declared the area safe and all passengers and crew boarded the cruise ships MS Noordam and Spirit of Tasmania. Port officials say all cruise ships were scheduled to depart tonight.

Officials say the private security company trained the explosives sniffer dogs without knowing what training the dogs had.
