Cunard's latest cruise liner, reached a significant construction milestone at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. The iconic red and black funnel, which has become synonymous with Cunard's seafaring heritage, was securely installed on the vessel in a process known as the 'funnel lift.' This marks a major step forward as Queen Anne prepares for her maiden voyage in May 2024.
"Cunard's signature red and black funnel is a part of our heritage, and we are thrilled to see it installed on our newest ship," said Matt Gleaves, VP Commercial, Cunard, North America. "The funnel lift is a significant milestone in the building process, and we are now one step closer to welcoming Queen Anne into service."
As the 249th ship to sail under the Cunard flag, Queen Anne will complete an impressive quartet alongside Cunard's flagship Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth. This will be the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four Queens at sea, a testament to the company's enduring legacy in the luxury ocean travel industry.
The design of Cunard's red and black funnels can be traced back to Robert Napier, the shipyard owner who built some of Cunard's earliest ships. The distinctive color scheme has endured for over 150 years, making Cunard ships instantly recognizable in ports around the world, and symbolizing the company's commitment to craftsmanship and style.
Queen Anne's design concepts are rooted in Cunard's heritage, with a focus on craftsmanship, style, storytelling, and innovation. The 113,000-ton, 3,000-guest ship spans 14 decks and promises to offer travelers several breathtaking moments, including the largest curated art collection at sea. Guests can also look forward to uniquely Cunard experiences, such as five-star dining options with White Star Service, luxurious spa facilities, and new entertainment venues.
In addition to its luxurious amenities, Queen Anne will take guests to some of the world's most enticing destinations during her maiden season. From the cultural gems of the Mediterranean to the mystical landscapes of the Norwegian fjords, passengers will have the opportunity to explore and experience the world in style aboard this remarkable new addition to Cunard's fleet.
