Cunard's Queen Anne floated out in Venice

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Cunard, one of the world's most iconic cruise brands, celebrated the launch of its latest ship, the Queen Anne, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera. This marks the 249th ship under the Cunard flag and was celebrated with the traditional bottle smash of prosecco and blessings by a madrina. The Queen Anne will embark on its inaugural voyage to Lisbon exactly one year from now, on May 3rd, 2024.

Sture Myrmell, President of Carnival UK, said that Queen Anne will strengthen Cunard's position as a world-renowned luxury brand.

‘The float out ceremony marks the ship’s transition from her building dock to where she truly belongs – in the water. Today marks a significant moment for Queen Anne as we recognise the dedication by the master ship builders at Fincantieri to build a ship that reinforces our position as a world-famous luxury brand,’ Mr. Myrmell said.

Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri's Merchant Ships Division, shared Myrmell's sentiments, stating that the Queen Anne is the third ship Fincantieri built for Cunard. Matarazzo recognizes Cunard's historical significance to British seafaring and sees the construction of the Queen Anne as an opportunity to unite tradition and innovation.

With the launch ceremony completed, the focus will now shift towards the interior fit-out of the ship. The Queen Anne's design is based on heritage, mastery, style, storytelling, and innovation, with a capacity of 3,000 guests spread over 14 decks. The ship will offer breathtaking experiences to travelers, including the largest art collection ever curated at sea.

Upon its entry into service in May 2024, the Queen Anne will join Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth as part of Cunard's quartet of ships.
